Hilary specialises in hand building techniques, with a focus on the vessel. The finished surfaces are mainly matt and dry in texture. She studied ceramics under Annie Turner, Robert Cooper and Sara Radstone, on the renowned City Lit Diploma course, in London, graduating in 2011.
Her work is informed by the geology and topography of the Suffolk coast, where erosion is a constant theme of this exposed landscape.
Her vessels are constructed with finely rolled slabs of stoneware clay. Layers of slips, oxides and glazes are built up to create her worn surfaces.
